Question from April Glaser-Hinder on User:April Glaser-Hinder/Sample page (03:00, 4 June 2024)[edit]

Hi Cassiopeia

I'm trying to help 96 year old April Glaser-Hinder, an internationally recognised artist, winner of first prize in the 13th Biennale Internazionale Dantesca in Ravenna in 1998, whose works are now owned by a number of Australian art galleries, including the National Gallery of Victoria (https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/explore/collection/artist/35764/). . She is the niece of Australian artists Frank Hinder (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Hinder) and Margel Hinder (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margel_Hinder).

It seems I started on the wrong foot with Wikipedia last night while helping April create an email address and then trying to create a Wikipedia account with her. April was unaware of Wikipedia. She has no internet at home and spends her time organising records of her extensive body of work in self-published books, papers, photos and CDs. She's not selling her artwork, which is all now owned by others.

It was therefore my idea, not hers, that she should create her own Wikipedia entry, so it's accurate and complete before she dies and so much knowledge is lost with her. But now reading Wikipedia COI guidelines it seems that will be problematic and maybe I should create the entry under an account I create for me, although it would still be based on the material she makes available to me. The problem now is that my account would be using the same IP address as April.

Any advice you can provide to guide April and I would be appreciated. I've used Wikipedia since its inception but its editing policies are totally new to both of us.

Regards Vicki Tac --April Glaser-Hinder (talk) 03:00, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

April Glaser-Hinder Good day and thank you for the question. May I know what is your relation with April? Cassiopeia talk 03:05, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I became April's friend two years ago when I moved nearby. Her immediate family are all dead, including her first and second husbands. She has no children, but she has a good relationship with the family of her deceased sister's deceased husband. I have their agreement to try to create a Wikipedia entry for her. April Glaser-Hinder (talk) 06:09, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will try to create an account under my name, with my email address, so it's clear who's editing. But will I be blocked now that my IP address is also being used by April? April Glaser-Hinder (talk) 06:32, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) @April Glaser-Hinder Not usually. The sole reasons why you may be blocked in regards to April is if you don't follow our spam, COI, sockpuppetry, or meatpuppetry policies. Cass, if you have any more reasons, feel free to add, those are the ones I can think of. thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/ $ 00:31, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
April Glaser-Hinder See below:
1. WP:COI - since you are a friend of Hinder, that means you have a COI/conflict of interest. We do not an editor to write an article of the subject you have a COI with.
2. WP:PRIMARY - since you have a COI with Hinder, and your info of Hinder is from Hinder herself, that means your source is primary which can NOT be used to contribute to the WP:GNG criteria which we would accept the article in Wikipedia.
3. You can use the same IP address (such as 3 members of a family using the same IP address via wifi), but you can use the Wikipedia account of other editor (such as little brother using big sister Wikipedia account) as that would considered sock puppet and you will be blocked indefinitely for violating the guidelines. If you are doing so, I suggest you to STOP it IMMEDIATELY.
4. To have an article in Wikipedia, the subject need to pass the WP:GNG guidelines, which means the subject needs to be have significant coverage by independent, reliable sources where by the the sources talk about the subject in length and in dept and not passing mention for verification. Question from Wbergsman on Draft:Bergsmanwriter (21:48, 5 June 2024)[edit]

Hi. Some of my citations were photos, i.e., of a birth certificate, newspaper article. How do I insert those? --Wbergsman (talk) 21:48, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wbergsman, Good day and thank you for your questions. Since your user name is Wbergsman, may I know is Bergsmanwriter is related to you? Cassiopeia talk 05:35, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Bergsmanwriter is my husband. But, he hasn't used that in a long time. Where did that name turn up. 72.195.196.251 (talk) 15:37, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that you are logged out. Please be careful to avoid logged-out editing, it may be confused with sockpuppetry. thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/ $ 15:44, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My husband says bergsmanwriter may not be him, because he never joined Wiki before. . Maybe there is another Bergsman who is a writer. Wbergsman (talk) 23:28, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Bergsmanwriter is my husband. But, he hasn't used that in a long time. Where did that name turn up? Wbergsman (talk) 16:01, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it seemed the problem with the "entry" I was working on was the pictures in the citations. I redid all the footnotes so there it is only text, no pictures. When can I re-post the new version? Wbergsman (talk) 16:04, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wbergsman It is difficult to help you when we dont have the URL of the info you mentioned "the entry on the pictures". If it is not on a URL page when pls details the info so I can help. Secondly, you mentioned on your talk page that you mentioned " because I'm already blocked" - see HBoldERE and if you have previously edited Wikipedia and have been blocked, could you pls provide your blocked user name or your IP address pls. Cassiopeia talk 01:29, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you were the person who blocked me. But, I guess not. I submitted for publication a new entry, eliminating all the photos in the citations. ~ 8 June 2024
Wbergsman (talk) 15:12, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wbergsman As mentioned, what was your Wikipedia user name which you got blocked or your IP address so I could understand the nature of the edit of the publication of photos in the citation as your have stated a few times above. Cassiopeia talk 06:38, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know, my Wikipedia user name was, or is, wbergsman. But, that's irrelevant now. I have rewritten an entry for Wikipedia and it's on wbergsman/sandbox. What happens next? Wbergsman (talk) 16:42, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I've been assigned to watch a wikipedia page for a politician that is susceptible to malicious changes. Is there a way I can lock the page? or become admin for the page? --876Scribe (talk) 16:48, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Kentucky and WikiProject Louisville[edit]

Hi, just to let you know, both of the subject projects are subprojects of Wikipedia:WikiProject United States and use its banner. They haven't used their own individual banners since 2011. Because UFC on ESPN: Cannonier vs. Imavov happened in Louisville, it belongs in the Louisville project. The Louisville project is a child of Kentucky's. Hope this makes sense. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 07:53, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

StefenTower My understanding is that unless the topic/article is about US specifically and not about certain states or cities, then US project will be used, if know then the specific state to be used and that is the reason why the state template existed in the first place. US has the sates in project talk page is different from the rest of the world which all topic of the country integrals of which state or city the topic is resides will be only state as in the country which is the only project template we have in English Wikipedia. Cassiopeia talk 08:05, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As a longtime member of these projects, I'm happy to help explain. Many but not all states and cities in the U.S. operate as subprojects of WP United States and use its banner and have done so since 2011. In these cases, they do not use their own individual banner. And many of these old banners have been deprecated. Just because the WP US banner is used, that doesn't necessarily mean the article involved applies to the whole country, but in an ultimate sense, the event we are covering here did indeed take place in the United States. Hope this helps. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 08:13, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
StefenTower What I read years ago of the banner info might be outdated and if the sub state banner is not longer used then, it should not be in the list for choosing in rater tool. Cassiopeia talk 08:29, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is possible that some deprecated project templates in the Rater tool should not be in there. Rater has been known to occasionally have issues with what it lists for selection. As for Kentucky, it appears that Rater continues to include the Kentucky template but only as a wrapper for WP United States. Ultimately we use the WP US template as you will see in any of its included articles. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 08:37, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
StefenTower Since Rater show the states in the list, I will continue to use them as it is not clear which one is deprecated and which one is not. If you happen to come across, then welcome to change. Thank you and Stay safe. Cassiopeia talk 08:49, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
States and cities that aren't in WP US show there, of course. At any rate, I do make changes if necessary to place the correct current template for WP KY or WP Louisville (which is WP US), as seen in this case. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 15:43, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
