School for Commercial Communication[edit]

Need assistance. Not able to solve problems. In my eyes it's an interesting (historical) subject. Worth saving it. MJJdeG (talk) 21:52, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MJJdeG.
You need references. All information must be referenced on Wikipedia using published sources. You have a blank References section in your draft and then a bunch of External Links which are not formatted like a proper reference.
Imagine you are writing a scientific paper, do you think your current draft would be acceptable with no references and random external links?
To solve this is relatively easy: please follow the tutorial at WP:INTREFVE which uses the Visual Editor (like Microsoft Word). After every statement you need to cite, just click the Cite button to add an in-line citation.
However, it is worth noting that only notable topics merit a Wikipedia article, using our special definition of notability which you can find here. You prove notability by showing significant coverage of the topic in multiple, independent, reliable, secondary sources which are then referenced using in-line citations following the above. Currently it is hard to reviewers to determine notability because of your poorly formatted references. Note: sources do not need to be online, only published. The WP:INTREFVE tutorial can help you format the references properly.
Finally, I presume from your username you are Marien de Goffau. This means you have a conflict of interest in this topic and need to be careful when writing about it. You should also declare your conflict of interest. Please see that link for guidance.
Writing a Wikipedia article from scratch is really difficult - akin to performing in an orchestra when you've never played a musical instrument before.
I hope that answers your questions, but let me know if you have any further ones.
Best, Qcne (talk) 22:00, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response. I completely agree with you and for me your answers are clear. Still, everything remains (a bit) difficult for me. I'll try to make adjustments using your directions. Please provide the necessary help and corrections. 62.45.104.189 (talk) 19:28, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MJJdeG, hopefully the tutorial at WP:INTREFVE will help. Qcne (talk) 19:59, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have a source (published). Available as a JPG and not on line. How can I use that?
The available sources are in Dutch. How is that work? MJJdeG (talk) 22:01, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @MJJdeG.
You can't link the image directly, but it's totally fine to use an off-line non-English source. Cite it appropriately (if it's a book, cite it as a book; if it's a journal, cite it as a journal; etc). You may have to use the manual cite feature. Qcne (talk) 07:44, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't get the explanation about an off-line source.
How do I do that?
Used 3 references. Is that done OK? MJJdeG (talk) 15:25, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
References on Wikipedia can be online (accessibly via a web address) or offline (only accessible by going to a physical location such as a library). As long as you format the reference correctly so it can be identified correctly by readers, we don't mind offline sources.
Thanks for adding some more sources, I don't think it is quite there to pass WP:NSCHOOL or WP:ORG yet, however. Qcne (talk) 10:54, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I myself cannot develop further. My limits have been reached. The question is whether this stage is reasonable or should further development follow? To continue is beyond my capabilities. Then I need a helping hand from others.
In my opinion, this subject is really historically important. Was a transitional moment in the European advertising world (Netherlands Belgium France Germany). It would be a shame not to document this. MJJdeG (talk) 12:31, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What is an advice? MJJdeG (talk) 21:42, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MJJdeG unfortunately I just don't see this organisation meeting WP:NORG criteria, if those are the only sources you can find. Qcne (talk) 11:22, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion Nomination of Draft[edit]

Hello,

Last night my draft has deleted with the reason `A tag has been placed on Draft:Mojé Assefjah, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.` I think now it`s proper: The language is neutral and sources are solid, there is no promotional or advertising activity. Could you please check it again?

Best regards, Thank you so much. Ozgunbatu (talk) 08:45, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ozgunbatu. It was speedily deleted and is no longer accessible. If you want to create it again you can but please very carefully read WP:SPAM. Qcne (talk) 10:22, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Genesis gym[edit]

Hello, these are the only references available, from the business itself so I am not sure how they are unreliable, every bit of information i have provided is backed up in the references, from the company and its parent. What do you need me to do? Thank you Dh545 (talk) 13:38, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dh545. I am afraid in that case the Gym does not merit a Wikipedia article at this time. Only organisations that have had significant coverage in multiple published independent secondary sources are considered "notable" enough for an article on Wikipedia. Qcne (talk) 14:03, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen hundreds of businesses small enough have there own page, there is businesses local to me that are alot less notable than this gym, which is ran all over australia, even in the list of health clubs wikipedia there is heaps of less notable gyms. I have provided credible references all from the gym itself? I can also provide references to news outlets that have covered but there is no need as the references i've provided a contain all of the info i've written. Dh545 (talk) 15:17, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Dh545. Unfortunately Wikipedia has millions of articles and tens of thousands of them are poor quality - as we're all volunteers no one has gotten around to deleting them or improving them. If you link me some I can take appropriate action?
As per my above message, we need independent sources - so even though the gym itself is a reliable source, it is not independent of the gym for hopefully obvious reasons.
So, if you can find three sources that each are:
- independent of each other.
- independent of the gym (not interviews with the CEO or regurgitated press releases).
- from reliable places (not random blogs or social media).
Then I will take another look. Qcne (talk) 15:21, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Asking for fresh eyes is always good[edit]

I usually choose a different venue, WT:AFC where there is less chance of folk piling on and you still get a decent answer. I have commented on the thread there in a manner which I hope all parties will find helpful. This has the potential to become heated, which never usually works out well for the COI editor. The discussion touches upon WP:ACADEME which you may be familiar with 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 22:01, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that's an essay I have not seen before. Thanks Tim, really useful. Qcne (talk) 08:39, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It may be worth considering sharing the essay with the editor who has criticised you. While they are not the direct target audience there may be mutual benefit.
I started it off, and am proud of the way others developed it, which is precisely as it should be. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 16:12, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft: Invenio Origin[edit]

Hello, post your comment/rejection, I made changes to the draft and resubmitted the same day - it has so far not had any further notes with regards to being approved/rejected. Hence this message. I understand the workload is heavy, but thought I will reach out and check anyway.

Based on your comment, I was able to find citations other than Times of India for all but one of the mentions on my draft - a TV series that they have produced (MasterChef India - Telugu). The wiki page of the TV series itself also lists Invenio Origin as one of the production companies, however, I was not able to pin down which source the page mentions that the mention found approval there - however, I also did notice that the wiki page of this series has quite a few citations from Times of India for other points that have been mentioned.

The only article that explicitly mentions Invenio Origin as one of the producers of the show is on Times of India. There are a couple others that makes a generalised mention and I'm not sure how those websites rank at Wikipedia in terms of credibility, hence I refrained from citing them.

Would you suggest I remove the mention of this TV series for this particular language, or is one mention of TOI out of 13 overall citations acceptable?

Thanks a bunch! SouthBlrBoy (talk) 13:01, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @SouthBlrBoy. Had a look at the sources and the majority are brief mentions so don't provide WP:SIGCOV of the company.
It might be easier if you show me three sources that all meet the following criteria:
  1. From reliable newspapers/magazines (not random blogs or IMDb)
  2. Are independent of the company (not press releases or pure interviews with the CEO)
  3. Provide significant coverage (not fleeting mentions)
  4. Gives some kind of analysis, commentary, discussion, comparison, etc. Something other than just "This company exists."
The ottplay.com source is okay: it is mostly derived from an interview with the CEO but does provide some independent commentary. A couple more sources like that would work.
Getting these sources first would allow us to establish the notability of the company.
Hope that helps! Qcne (talk) 14:17, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just trying to make sure I know which problem I have to solve - You're saying you'd like to see more sources that meet your mentioned criteria for Invenio Origin overall, or for the specific citation issue I mentioned above? If I am understanding you correctly, you mean Invenio Origin isn't notable yet unless I can cite at least three sources that agree with your mentioned criteria? SouthBlrBoy (talk) 16:55, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The latter, yeah. We need to see significant coverage of the company which is independent of what the CEO says. Two or three sources like that should do it. Qcne (talk) 17:06, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. Thanks. I shall revert on this soon and reach out in case I need any guidance. SouthBlrBoy (talk) 06:47, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
I noticed that Paramvah Studios has a citation of its own website (the very first citation). I wanted to cross check with you if such citation is acceptable, because Invenio Origin does have a decent website stating who they are and the work they do. SouthBlrBoy (talk) 07:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

About your review of this draft[edit]

Hey Qcne! I wanted to check in on whether you intend to continue this review as it's been a week since you marked it as in review. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 23:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TechnoSquirrel69 Ack, I don't even remember clicking that. Must have been a mistake on my end! Please unmark it for me. Qcne (talk) 23:26, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem; done. For future reference, you can find the button to mark or unmark a draft as in review by opening AFCH and clicking the double chevrons («) on the right. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 23:30, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Image Race Cars - refusal[edit]

Thanks for your rapid response to my first article.

Have been reading style guides, content refs, etc., and have tried hard to do as it suggests. Am not quite clear at this point what it is that contravenes the standards for this article. Are you willing/able to be any more specific please? X444COM (talk) 15:25, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @X444COM. A few things:
- we can't use Forums to cite content, as they are not reliable.
- please do not link to copyrighted magazine images (the ibb.co links), just write a full reference that identifies the magazine.
- and finally, please format your references properly using in-line citations. There is a tutorial at WP:INTREFVE. This will auto-generate a References list for you and ensure all your citations are properly formatted.
Let me know if you have any questions. Qcne (talk) 15:41, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bharat Mehra draft page[edit]

Resubmitted. I am learning a lot!! Thanks @Qcne

Researcherasc (talk) 20:05, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey again @Researcherasc. I can't seem to access source #6, and it would be good to have a citation in the second paragraph of Education and career. Qcne (talk) 20:06, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep - I'm having the same difficulty now - I listened to whole interview a month or so ago - and so I went to Wayback Machine and here's the link: https://web.archive.org/web/20200802175719/https://digital.lib.utk.edu/collections/islandora/object/voloh:10 - I can read transcript and listen to interview as welll. UTK's Islandora must be down (I used to run these various library servers...).
As for second para I was told to remove external links - reinstate as citation?
Thanks! Researcherasc (talk) 20:17, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep! and you can add that archive.org URL to the citation. Qcne (talk) 20:19, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Both done! Thanks. Researcherasc (talk) 20:32, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Accepted! Please add some WP:CATEGORIES. I removed a couple of instances of peacock language too. Qcne (talk) 20:39, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@QcneDanke! Like I said I am learning a lot :). Super jazzed now. Will add categories...thanks again! Researcherasc (talk) 20:46, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is super complicated and writing a new article is a really daunting task, so well done on your first one. :) Qcne (talk) 20:51, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Qcne thank you for saying that its complicated - my last edit, a mere improvement I thought to another academic's page also just before this weekend - got me dinged for copyright violation (super scary). I just wanted to give up. Forget about wikipedia and completing the Bharat Mehra page. I'm glad I persevered and got it done with your help. I need to go back to that and learn more about the 'copyright violation.' I've had a lot of my own research articles published and I used to teach intellectual property. We're allowed to quote and to be fair my mistake was I forgot to put the quotes. Oh well, that's for another day. Thanks again. Teahouse was a great tip too. I'll def be using that source again. Have a great week! Researcherasc (talk) 21:00, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Researcherasc Wikipedia is super strict on copyright - frankly even I (with near 30,000 edits) stays well clear! My advice is when in doubt: paraphrase. Qcne (talk) 21:06, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On Memevietnam98[edit]

Hi, I notice that you are having a disagreement with the above user. I think your assessment of the page Draft:Spence Monroe is correct and it fails WP:SIGCOV. This is not the first time this user has dragged their feet through a very basic discussion about notability even when it has been spelled out to them, as on their talk page. I appreciate you taking the time to be polite and helpful and think you did a very good job. VRXCES (talk) 11:51, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from CSMention269 (22.05.2024)[edit]

Hi, Qcne it's CSM. I was revising the Portonovo Lighthouse's history page and I looked carefully. You helped in addressing the CIR issue and fixed the sources crisis. Just to know since I'm still a newbie in this, since you had done major edits, submitted it and accepted the draft. If I create a draft and if it pass GNG (in case of mine, NPOL articles), then can I submit it and accept the draft by myself? Or it is completely different from what you have done in the last draft I mentioned just now. ☮️Counter-Strike:Mention 269🕉️(🗨️✉️📔) 04:30, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @CSMention269!
I personally wouldn't accept my own articles via the AfC process. If I was going to create an article (which, I haven't in all my time editing Wikipedia!), I'd probably do it via AfC so that it could be reviewed by another experienced editor. But if you're pretty confident in your article writing skills and are sure the subject meets notability, you might as well create it directly in Mainspace.
With the Portonovo Lighthouse draft, the core of the draft was still the original author - I have no interest or knowledge in lighthouses - and so I just brought it up to editorial standards, submitted it on their behalf, and immediately accepted it. Qcne (talk) 07:55, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got the point. Thanks for the clarification. ☮️Counter-Strike:Mention 269🕉️(🗨️✉️📔) 10:46, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Abris Capital Partners[edit]

Hi - I am trying to get this page published, but the comment is that it reads too much like an advertisement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Abris_Capital_Partners Could you give any guidance over which sections could be removed or edited to help with this? Spwbarton (talk) 11:44, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Spwbarton. The general feel of the draft is that it is telling the world what Abris Capital does. Wikipedia is not interested in what a company has to say about itself; instead we are interested in what third party independent secondary sources have to say about the company.
Basically the entire Strategy and Notable investments sections are the kind of PR words you'd see in a company profile in a trade magazine - not an encyclopaedic article.
Are you associated with Abris Capital Partners in some way? Qcne (talk) 18:04, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, @Spwbarton. Ah you perhaps Sam Barton? Your username makes me think you are.
This makes you a paid editor with a conflict of interest, as you are receiving financial compensation from Abris Capital to promote their organisation on Wikipedia. Please note it is prohibited from doing this without making a disclosure, you must follow the instructions at WP:COI and WP:PAID as the very next thing you do, otherwise your account will be blocked from editing. Failure to disclose is a breach of the Wikimedia Terms and Conditions.
As a marketing professional with a conflict of interest, you are perhaps going to find it very difficult to write for Abris Capital in a neutral, encyclopaedic way.
If you are determined to continue in this venture, my advice is to very carefully read WP:NPOV, WP:PEACOCK, WP:PROMOTION, and then WP:BOSS in that order.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have, but please be aware we expect paid editors to put in the effort to learn how to write for Wikipedia. The rest of us are, after all, volunteers. Qcne (talk) 18:09, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CSD rationale[edit]

When nominating a problematic page for deletion, please do not use the problem in the db reason itself. The entire point of deleting PII, libelous, or minor-related content is to avoid people seeing it, and using it as the nomination rationale means that everyone knows the content without having to even read the page. If there are pages that need quiet deletion, please email the Oversight Team or one of its members. Primefac (talk) 20:21, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Primefac That.. yeah, that was stupid of me. I've done Oversight a few times this month, I should have realised. sorry about that. Qcne (talk) 20:22, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, these things happen. Primefac (talk) 07:29, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rejecting a draft[edit]

I believe your rejection of Younis Tirawi was incorrect. when you rejected it looked like this. The documentation for the decline rationale you chose was "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources." in the draft, the sources were generally reliable but the formatting is wrong. in the list of decline reasons in Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing instructions, there is nothing about formatting or reference formatting. that's an issue that is fixed with normal editing not deletion or rejection. (t · c) buidhe 00:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Buidhe, I declined the draft, not rejected it. I think there's an argument to be made that under WP:BLP all biographies should strictly use the Wikipedia in-line citation style. The draft did have that to an extent, but the ILCs had been placed in manually. But perhaps it should have been a comment, not a decline? What do you think? Qcne (talk) 09:04, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In this case, it was clear which content went with which source. If you look at the numbering, the author was intending to put in inline citations but didn't get it right. Also, inline citations are not required for blps except in cases where they are required for all articles. Since there is not a policy/guideline basis for decline I would make it a comment instead. (t · c) buidhe 13:33, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback, @Buidhe. I appreciate it and will definitely take that on board going forward. Qcne (talk) 13:36, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Stella (Trane) Jackson[edit]

Hello. You just asked where all our information came from for our biography of Stella (Trane) Jackson. All of our information came from snippets of newspaper articles that are cited on the reference page.Adsimmel (talk) 14:25, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, @Adsimmel. The newspapers do not seem to be accessible online, so much harder to verify.
A few things:
- Does every single piece of information stated in the article really come from the newspaper clippings? Does the clipping state her education, work experience, singing experience, marriage, home life, wider family, her hobbies etc? Any information *must* be from published sources, so not family records, or unpublished diaries, or interviews with grand children, etc.
- You say "our" information, can I ask if you are somehow related to Stella or have an association with TRANE?
- The draft really is written in a completely inappropriate tone for Wikipedia, it is full of promotional language like "pursued her passion", "honed her skills", "Her contributions, passion for music, and commitment to serving others endure" < all these examples serve purely to promote Stella (and perhaps, by association, TRANE?). This is why I believe you may have some kind of conflict of interest with Stella, as I can't imagine a disinterested party writing in such a gushing way.
Let me know, Qcne (talk) 14:34, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for replying so fast. I would like to point out that I am an intern working for Trane Technologies this summer and was tasked to upload this article that had already been written by another employee. We did get all of our information from newspaper clippings or previously published public information. If necessary, I can work on editing the article to make it sound more neutral to the topic.Adsimmel (talk) 14:40, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Adsimmel, to be clear, you are an intern currently? If so it is mandatory you make a disclosure by following the instructions at WP:PAID. Failure to do is a breach of the Wikimedia Terms and Conditions. You also have a conflict of interest, so should also make that disclosure by following the instructions at WP:COI. Again, manadotory.
The draft does need a total re-write; you should simply be summarising / paraphrasing those sources in your own words, not making any assertations. I am also not even sure if Stella Jackson merit's an article: we would usually need to see significant coverage of Stella in multiple, independent, reliable, secondary sources. Brief newspaper clippers are rarely enough, and the other two URL sources on the draft do not provide significant coverage.
Finally, please have a read of WP:BOSS.
let me know if you have any questions!
Best, Qcne (talk) 14:44, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again. I just submitted my information for both the PAID and COI pages, and I also attempted to fix some of the promotional language. I resubmitted my draft so please let me know if there is anything else I can do.Adsimmel (talk) 15:22, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Artisticresearch. You were doing so well up until the Key Works section, where it goes back to reading like the Publisher's advert for the book. Please re-write.
